Presentations of findings for V4 journalists

Slovakia

The Bratislava Policy Institute organized two roundtables with journalists. The first roundtable, which took place on November 22, 2023, in Bratislava, was led by Michal Vašečka. Several journalists from the main national media outlets accepted his invitation to attend. The second roundtable, on 16th of April 2024, was led by Radka Wagingerová and was joined by 5 Slovak journalists from local media. Both events were very productive. Crucial data from public opinion polls, policy, and comparative analysis were presented, leading to extensive discussions about the main outcomes and challenges facing Slovakia. Journalists were surprised by the data and fragmentation of policy-making efforts, particularly in migration. They showed significant interest in discussing the complexities surrounding the rule of law and climate policies, emphasizing the urgent need for greater collaboration and unified strategies among the V4 to tackle these critical European challenges.

Hungary

On January 17, 2024, the “Journalistic Ethics in Crises” event was held at Lumen Café in Budapest for 15 journalists. The event focused on maintaining journalistic integrity in times of crisis and discussed the impact of war, migration, democratic erosion, and ecological emergencies on journalistic practices. Prominent journalists led a roundtable discussion, emphasizing the challenges of balancing rapid news dissemination with ethical reporting, and the importance of maintaining objectivity while exhibiting empathy. The event provided a valuable space for journalists to collectively navigate the intricacies of ethical journalism during challenging times.

Poland

Two roundtables for journalists were organized in Poland, one in Łódź and one in Warsaw on February 22 and April 24, 2024. They targeted journalists focusing on EU and social affairs and were moderated by Dr. Milosz Hodun. The events were challenging to organize, but participants found the project useful for EU analysis and policymaking. The Warsaw meeting focused on Polish society’s relation to EU affairs, with participants expressing interest in specific metrics and detailed presentations on public consultation results.

Czechia

Roundtable for journalists titled “Seminar for Journalists: information about European Elections” held in Prague on May 21, 2024, focused on the work performance of the current Czech MEPs as well as key topics of the election campaign and in the upcoming 5 years. Our initial input led to an exchange of views between our experts and high-profile Czech journalists writing about EU issues. We touched upon the European Green Deal agenda, EU economic performance and economic great power struggle between the EU/China/US. The event allowed us to share RevivEU’s output with the journalist who further spread them through their reporting, resulting also in several media appearances from the presentation and connected topics.
