The flight attendant always tells you to make sure you put your oxygen mask on before assisting others with their masks. If you can’t breathe you can’t help someone else put on an oxygen mask.
Carolyn has taught me that this principle still applies to my daily life. You can’t take care of anyone else unless you take care of yourself first. I, like many of my peers, get caught up in the day to day routine of my life; work, home, community, always on the go, always doing what needs to be done, never taking time out for myself. Carolyn showed me how to center myself before my day begins. She encouraged me to meditate every day before I get out of bed and practice several yoga stretches every morning. Since I started this routine I have continued to face each day with less angst and leftover stress and more positive energy than I have in many years.
